What is BAC Water?

Bacteriostatic Water (BAC Water) is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol — the USP standard bacteriostatic preservative. The benzyl alcohol disrupts bacterial cell membranes and prevents microbial growth, allowing multiple draws from the same vial without contamination risk.

Unlike plain sterile water for injection (SWFI), BAC water maintains sterility for up to 28 days after first puncture when refrigerated. This makes it the universal standard for reconstituting lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides.

Reconstitution Guide

Step-by-step protocol for reconstituting any lyophilized peptide vial

Gather supplies

You need: BAC water vial, peptide vial, insulin syringe (1 mL / 100 IU), alcohol swabs, and a clean surface.

Swab both vial tops

Wipe the rubber stopper of both the BAC water vial and the peptide vial with a fresh alcohol swab. Allow to air dry for 10 seconds.

Draw BAC water

Insert the syringe needle into the BAC water vial and draw your desired volume (typically 1–2 mL for a 5mg peptide vial).

Inject down the vial wall

Insert the needle into the peptide vial and slowly inject the BAC water down the inner wall — not directly onto the powder. This prevents foaming and peptide degradation.

Gently swirl — never shake

Gently roll the vial between your palms or swirl slowly until the powder is fully dissolved. Never shake — shaking can denature the peptide.

Refrigerate immediately

Store the reconstituted peptide at 2–8°C. Use within 4 weeks. Label the vial with the date of reconstitution.
