5-Amino-1MQ is a small-molecule inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme overexpressed in obese adipose tissue. It is not a peptide. Published evidence is primarily from cell-culture and rodent studies; established human efficacy, optimal dosing, and long-term safety data are not available.

In preclinical models, NNMT inhibition has been associated with increased intracellular NAD⁺ levels in adipocytes, reduced fat-cell size, and downstream activation of SIRT1 and AMPK pathways. These findings have not been replicated in controlled human trials.
